1986 - Space Testimony

This video contains excerpts of John Denver's testimony before the Appropriations Committee of the U.S. Congress in March of 1986, two months after the Challenger disaster, where Congress was deciding whether or not to offer further funding to the space program, and in particular, whether or not to allow civilians back into the space program. John's testimony is characteristically eloquent as he shares his thoughts and feelings about the matter. https://healingtimeonearth.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/JDHealingTim... 1987 - African Sunrise

"African Sunrise"
African sunrise, shine on a brand new day.
African sunrise, show us a brand new way.
Give us a brand new morning, show us forever beginning to stand on our own.
African sunrise, smile on my African home.
In this hour of quiet contemplation,
the stillness of the dawning calms my mind.
I face the day with heartfelt exaltation,
the light is both a promise and a sign.
In the darkness, we have lost the son of our sister,
though the beauty of his spirit lingers still.
This was a child of love, a child of laughter,
who cannot understand the way I feel.
Is it not the sun that gives the seasons?
Is it not the sun that brings the rain?
Our throats are choked with dust, but we're still singing.
Our song will not be silenced by the pain.
All around the village I could hear the roosters crowing.
There was a time it was like music to my ears.
Now all I can hear is the sound of hungry babies crying.
I pray for rain to wash away their tears.
African sunrise, shine on a brand new day.
African sunrise, shine on a brand new way.
With one who will be our brother, and one who will be our partner and teach us to know.
African sunrise, smile on my African home.
African sunrise, smile on my African home. African sunrise.

1991 - I Want To Live

"For many, many people it's a very, very desperate time here on planet Earth. This song was written for them. It was written out of the proposition that all men and women are truly created equal; that everywhere people are the same: no matter the color of your skin, no matter the language you speak, no matter the form of your politics or the expression of your faith. Truly, as human beings and our desires, our hopes and our dreams, our frustrations, our vision: WE ARE ALL THE SAME. And certainly, children are all the same. This song comes from what I believe is heard in the birth cry of every newborn baby. It says, I Want To Live."
